Hugh McGuire’s Ode to Time, Love & Books

hughThe ever-lovely Hugh McGuire of BookOven, and founder of LibriVox, has posted a video of his presentation at the BookNetCanada Tech Forum.

Time, Love & Books is a beautiful essay that explores the following key ideas:

  • media companies are in the time-acquisition business. Publishers need to find ways to get readers to give their time, one of the most precious commodities of the modern world, to authors.
  • sharing our love and passion of things – like books! – is one of the pleasurable things we do as human beings, and lucky for us, the digital architecture of the internet leaves archaeological traces of our love all over the web for others to find
  • authors and publishers can do more to facilitate the passion of book lovers, helping to both scatter and excavate the archaeological traces of their engagement with books in order to connect with new readers
